In July 2005 the municipality of Venice as a result of a open tendering procedure, awarded Sicea (a subsidiary of Rizzani de Eccher), the contract for the preservation and restoration of Cà Giustinian Palace. The building, which looks on Canal Grande opposite the church of Madonna della Salute, was designed and built in the Gothic -Venetian age and underwent reconstruction works in the post-Renaissance and at the end of the 30’s.
The aim of the project is to recover this high-artistic and architectural value building and make it available to the public. The initial contract value was € 2,957,974.28 but as a result of archaeological findings and the resulting preservation works required by Venice Superintendence for architectural heritage, the scope of work was partially changed and increased until reaching the present revised value of some € 4,047,476.68. Work had commenced in November 2005 and was scheduled for completion in 735 days, but owing to the abovementioned circumstances, the work schedule was extended, so the new completion date is December 2008.
Works are managed and carried out by Sicea personnel, while sub-contractors have been involved in the upgrading of the technological services and highly specialized restoration works (restoration and preservation of stones and/or plaster work). Upon completion of the works, the whole building (four floors + a terrace with an area of over 200 square metres) shall be let to the Biennale (Biennial festival), which will use it as head office and for the organization of cultural events, seminars and so on than can be held in the Sala delle Colonne (Columns’ hall). After the restoration and re-arrangement of interior spaces the building will provide a capacity for over 80 workers and a highly comfortable and efficient workplace fitted with all modern technical system (lifts, heating and air conditioning, computer network etc.).
