On 12 December 2007 the new headquarters of the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia located at Via Volturno, Udine, were officially opened. This project had been required since the early 70’s by the representatives of regional institutions and now its realization has also contributed to redeveloping and revitalising a degraded urban district of Udine. The temporary association of companies, whose lead company was Rizzani de Eccher S.p.A. and the agent companies Clocchiatti S.p.A. from Povoletto, Impianti Civili Industriali from Ronchi dei Legionari and Siemens S.p.A. from Milano, won the contract following the invitation to tender by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The contract value amounted to € 34 million; the average number of workers employed in the project was around 100 people every day, including technical, administration personnel and skilled workers. Construction work was completed in just a little over three years and the result was a seven-story building above ground level, with a capacity for 600 employees, and two underground car parks with a capacity of over 500 parking places. The structure looks very simple and functional: the building develops around a central courtyard (with access at levels 0 and +1), the envelope from the internal side is formed by glazed curtain walls, while on the outside it features an imposing ventilated facade with Grolla marble cladding. Technological services are based on state-of-the-art technology: they are completely managed by the Building Management System, consisting in the central integrated management of all the technological functions of the building: electrical systems (monitoring and controlling energy savings and environmental comfort of the rooms), lifts, HVAC systems, the underground car parks). The BMS also provides for the integrated operation of the technological services and security and safety systems of the whole building. The show-piece of this building is certainly the new auditorium with a capacity of 350 seats, located on the ground floor on Via Volturno side. The hall acoustic is nearly perfect, the design and decorations, especially the wood panelling and the dark blue columns, are a work of outstanding beauty. The auditorium shall host concerts, meetings and conferences open the public thanks to the independent entry and management that are separated from the rest of the building.
