Rizzani de Eccher has been awarded the Global Best project Award 2020 for the Matagarup Pedestrian Bridge project located in Perth, Australia.
The project took the top honor in the Bridge/Tunnel development category by Engineering News-Record (ENR). The international competition, judged by an advisory committee made up of industry veterans, highlighted the project for the best design, construction quality, innovation and safety performance.
The unique, 370-m-long cable-stayed pedestrian bridge became the landmark of the city of Perth. Construction and placement of dramatic 120-m-long steel arches that evoke the image of swans as well as symbolizing harmony between indigenous and Western communities required extensive collaboration and technical solutions.
The Matagarup Bridge required a great deal of attention to the complex structural and technological details, also given the slenderness of the structure and its aero-dynamic sensitivity and for a series of unique boundary conditions including the delicate ecosystem and environmental context of the river.
