Rizzani de Eccher has been awarded the contract for the upgrading and the conservation of the ornamental parts of the Procuratie Vecchie historical building in Piazza San Marco, Venice.
The work amounts to 14 million euro, increased to 22 million euro when David Chipperfield’s project will be finished, and concerns an area of 11,250 square meters. Planned duration is 26 months.
The building extends 150 meters along the northeast side of Piazza San Marco and was built in the 12th century. It was later demolished and then rebuilt due to a fire occurred in the early decades of the 1500s.
The intervention involves the static consolidation of existing structures. On the ground floor, containment tanks have been designed for protection against high tides and water treatment plants will be installed.
The project includes the complete renovation of technological installations in all areas of the building as well as the removal of architectural barriers.
The conservation of the extremely valuable ornamental elements will involve major restoration activities.
After the renovation, the Procuratie will host the executive offices of Assicurazioni Generali, as well as museum and exhibition areas.
